I have to say I’m quite proud of this photo. I’m proud of it because of the editing job I did. I’m sure there are people out there can tell I did some amateur editing, but for a first timer, I think I did a nice job.
Sorry, girls. He’s taken. Check out the ring!
I took this photo outside of a restaurant I ate at today. This is my friend John. Sometimes he’s the bane of my existence, sometimes I’m the bane of his. But nonetheless, he remains to be one my klosest and more genuinest friends in the universe.
So, when it comes to the editing, I did my own “irmy-hdr” editing. If you don’t know what HDR is, it stands for High Dynamic Range. And a lot of the SLRs + iPhones take HDR photos. An HDR photo is where one image is taking three times. One shot is normal, the next is overexposed and the last is underexposed. The three photos are then merged together to create one.
John had the sun shining on part of his face. I did what the HDR process does and thus the above. I tried to minimize the “white/blown-out” parts on John’s face due to the sun.
Please hold, as I pat myself on the back for this one.
Okay… done it!
Hey! I updated my blog 4 times this week! Yay!
“Monsters & Otters are doing it!”
Don’t ask me what that means. I have no idea.
Grover always says, “monsters are doing it!” whenever he’s dancing or singing or playing… whenever he’s happy.
I like the small string of lights. I should have changed my camera settings to manual and used a large aperture. But i wasn’t using my slr…
I went to return some Twilight books to the library when I found this girl flipping through a “How to Make Gingerbread Houses” book (True story!). I decided I wanted to do some “voyeurism” shots and took photos of her without her permission. When she finally realized, she totally freaked out and told on me to the librarians.
Just kidding.
This is my pal Kaye and she went to the library yesterday to study. I told her I’ve always wanted to take a “book shelf” photo and this was my chance. She happily agreed and thus, I am able to update my blog and P:365 once again.
Thanks, girl! I owe you… McDonalds or something.
I decided i wanted to run around WeHo yesterday… For the un-hipster/un-savvy peeps, thats West Hollywood. I wanted to visit a friend of mines, Kristine, who is the owner of a dessert business called CremeCaramelLA. She sells the most yummy bread pudding & flan! Yesterday, she was at the Melrose Place Farmers Market. No pictures from there because I ate all the food, but trust me guys, it’s sooo good!!
But as I was walking around the residential neighborhood of WeHo, I decided to pull out my camera and just start shooting around. It has been so long since I last took Bootsie out. I took photos of anything- cars, flowers, doors, whatever. Nothing too exotic or blog worthy.
I got transfixed at the clouds. Here are two photos.
I took this at like, 1:30p in the afternoon. But using a small aperture along with a fast shutter speed and pointing the camera directly at the sun… The results!
It’s cool to me. But its never good to look directly at the sun. It can damage your eyeballs. And we only have two!
Whilst continuing my walking journey, I stopped at a crosswalk and took this.
What you don’t see are two girls crossing the street together and a stop sign. Oh, the magicness of cropping! I originally wanted to focus on the stop sign, but I liked the clouds more.
Do you like clouds?
I put “093″ in the title of this blog because I chose a photo for the day. It’s a self portrait, and it makes me smile.
What do you guys think I should do to my hair? Oh, off topic. Sorry.
I’m sure you can find couches hanging outside just waiting to be thrown away or picked up anywhere. But, have you ever stopped to take a photo of it? I decided, “What the hey! Know one knows me! I don’t care if people walk by and see me doing this!”
And thus… the above.
My bum was a bit wet when I got off the couch. This couch must have been out there waiting for a passer-by to come get it because the cushions were somewhat soaked. It’s good I don’t weigh too much, as my bum didn’t didn’t really cause an indentation in the seat.
I hope for more photos & blog posts…
I suppose my trend for blogging nowadays is once a month. I hope to be able to update more regularly soon. Until then, I would like to thank those who still visited my blog when there were no new posts. I appreciate it. So, this entry is for you (guys).
I was at JPL last week to do some pre-acceptance testing. I met up with my friend Mike to eat lunch. While I was waiting for him at the cafeteria, I snapped this shot. I like “solitude-ity”, for lack of better words. When something is by them self. I dont know if the person who was originally sitting there came back. I’m sure they did, because they didn’t want to leave their notebook just laying around.
I think bikes are interesting things to photograph. As I was walking around on Saturday afternoon, I saw this bike just standing there. No owner. No one was in sight, except for the other people walking around. But nothing suggested that the owner was around. I guess they trust the world enough to leave their bike unchained.
Another “solitude-ity” picture.
I liked where the black border was placed. It makes it appear as if the wheel bike is about to roll out of the photo… or maybe it just finished rolling into the photo.
If anyone has any suggestions on mini projects for me to shoot, i’m all ears- err, eyes.
Last Friday, my cousins, Kuya Noel and Kuya Alfred and I helped take photos for the Philippine American Bar Association’s annual officer installations. This year, they joined with the Japanese American Bar Association. It was a big production with about 1000 people in attendance. These events take a lot of planning, and the associations get known Asian-Americans to come out to support the event. This year, Tia Carrere and Rob Fukazaki were the emcees.
Look! Me & Tia!
I’m so pale next to her.
The highlight of the night was the keynote speaker. This was the first time (in the 3 years of doing this), that I was so moved to hear someone speak. Do you guys know who Tani Cantil-Sakauye is? She is the first Filipino-American and first female to sit on the California Supreme Court. It was truly an honor to hear her story. She said that as a little girl, she never imagined becoming a judge, let alone sit on the CA Supreme Court. She spoke for about 20 minutes. She was very eloquent. I was nervous to meet her!! I wasn’t sure what to call her when i shook her hand, but I went with “your honor”.
And she was so nice, too!! She thanked me for helping to take photos for the evening.
She has bodyguards following her all the time… thats how important she is!!
This photo makes me giggle! She is in absolute AWE talking to me.
Remember how I said I was nervous to meet her? And how she spoke for 20 minutes?
Upon shaking her hand, I said, “Your Honor, you’re such a great speaker! I’m in Toastmasters and I noticed your didn’t say ‘um’ the ENTIRE time you were up there!” She laughed.
Kuya Alfred, who took the photo, said she probably thought, “That’s the only thing you got out of my speech? That I didn’t say ‘um’?”
Here’s Us with Kuya Arnold
It was long and tiring evening, but worth it.
I don’t think I’ll ever forget the night I met Tani Cantil-Sakauye.

I struggled with this one. If i had a child, or lived in a tropical island, I think this would have been easier. On Friday morning, I was thinking I would take a picture of a sandwich, but when my mom pulled out some recipe books, I thought I could photograph those! I like to cook, anyways.
But not until 10pm that night, did I climb out of bed to take photos.
Those are the recipe books I like to flip though. Reading the ingredients and looking at the bright, colorful photos inspire me to cook. After taking some shots on the table and then some by the window sill, I decided I’d put them in the refrigerator. Voila!
