Theme: Muse
I struggled with this one. If i had a child, or lived in a tropical island, I think this would have been easier. On Friday morning, I was thinking I would take a picture of a sandwich, but when my mom pulled out some recipe books, I thought I could photograph those! I like to cook, anyways.

But not until 10pm that night, did I climb out of bed to take photos.
05/52Those are the recipe books I like to flip though. Reading the ingredients and looking at the bright, colorful photos inspire me to cook. After taking some shots on the table and then some by the window sill, I decided I’d put them in the refrigerator. Voila!

I guess i’m going through a sunset/water phase right now. Or, maybe it’s just because I took Bootsie out to play on Sunday but haven’t taken her out since. The picture is still from Santa Monica, but instead of being on the pier, I was below it.

Landscape photography is cool.

MCP’s theme for week 4 is: Soothing Repetition…
I’m sure everyone has taken a photo similar to this once in their lifetime.
The photo was taken on the Santa Monica Pier as the sun began to set. There is something calming/soothing about sunsets (or moonlight) to me, especially when it’s accompanied with water. And talk about repetition- the sun’s only set about 730,500 times (2000 years X 365.25. The “.25″ comes from the leap year, guys).

04I hope that when you look at this photo, it can help put calmness and peace in your life, even if only for a moment.

The more I look at the photo, the more I feel I get lost in the clouds.

The freelensing mini-project is done. I usually do all the photos consecutively, but for this one, I couldn’t. I… don’t know why I couldn’t finish it last week. But here is 5/5. Its our piano. It’s nothing special. I think everyone who has a piano and a camera should take a photo like this.

This week’s MCP Theme is: Shades of Gray
Here’s my submission.
It’s titled: One For Me. One For You.

03/52

I’d like to develop a better appreciation for black and white photos. I feel that not all photos should be black and white. But, maybe with a much better trained eye and better Photoshop skills, I can make any photo look nice in black and white. Until then… here. All I could figure out to do “grayscale” it and then mess with the brightness and contrast…. snooze.

019

She’s back! And cuter than ever!
I had dinner with my Lovey, Christina. We ate at this swanky waffle place. Desiree, Mikey and of course, the adorable Chloe joined us. I had multiple conversations with Chloe last night, telling her how my day was, what she was planning for her first birthday… how much she loved the frozen custard at the restaurant… all that great stuff. I asked Chloe and her dad if I could take some photos of her. I hadn’t updated my P:365D in a while.

019

She is soo cute and funny!! But she’s not much of a talker…

013, 014

Oh, no, no, no… The 52 week project doesn’t replace my 365 day project. I’m doing both. I invite everyone to do some type of photo project! It’s good for the soul!

Freelensing isn’t a very easy thing to do. The first photo with the flowers was easy and I was happy with my results. But, each day gets a bit more difficult. Freelensing is a difficult concept to execute well because a lot of the time, the photo comes out completely blurry. Here are Days 3 and 4 for my 5 day mini project.

013I’ve always wanted to do the “mirror” shot (and there WILL be at least one more mirror photo before the end of the year). I like how the focus of the photo was on my shoulders and the little Crumpler logo, while Bootsie and the wall was not in focus. I like the composition/cropping/adjusting of the photo I did, too. I changed the color of the photo just by playing with the “levels” on Photoshop. Cool!
Well, I think so…

014It’s always easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. While I didn’t have to say “sorry” to anyone as I shot this photo in a hardware store, I always feel that when people see me walk in with a camera, they are just waiting to yell at me. And trust me, people have yelled at me for taking a photo while in their establishment. I just say, “oh, gosh! I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize…” and walk away. But it’s definitely easier than saying, “Excuse me. Can I please take a photo of…” Because I know they’ll just say NO!

okay. 1 more day.

01/02

I joined the MCP Project 52: Photo a Week group. Each week they reveal a theme and you have 7 days to come up with a photo. You are welcome to join the group! If you’d like to do this project with me, just let me know! I’d love to post photos on my blog from other shutterbugs. I like the 52 Week idea because, its one idea/theme and so many interpretations! It’ll be a surprise to see what others come up with!

Week 1: Around the House
01/52Meet Lampy the Lamp!
He’s lived in my room for many, many years. I’d been wanting to take a photo of him, but couldn’t figure out when or how. I’m glad that MCP came up with this theme because it gave me the chance to give Lampy some face-time on my blog! And speaking of face-time, he’s look at you right now, isn’t he? I actually get entranced by this photo. I just stare at the lights that look like eyes. I smile.
Are you entranced?

Week 2: Illustrate a Song
02/52Bag Lady by Erykah Badu
She is one of my favorite artists of all time!
I’d been struggling with this theme since I saw it. I listen to so many songs a day, but when it comes time to illustrating- its not very easy. I almost took a photo of thread spools and a needle, as I wanted to illustrate the classic “Sound of Music” lyric “So, a needle pulling thread”, but as I walked into the office carrying all those bags, someone called me “Bag Lady.”

“Bag lady you gon’ hurt your back
Dragging all them bags like that…”

And trust me… my back DOES hurt after having to carry all these bags! And YES, i DO carry those bags with me everyday! A backpack, a purse, my camera bag and my lunch bag. I did embellish this photo a little bit by holding my laptop (in the purple bag). Although, on occasion, i DO carry my laptop with me. My mom always laughs when she sees me walk out of the house in the morning carrying all my bags! And because of my narrow shoulders, the bags are already falling off by the time I shut the front door.

For those who don’t listen to Erykah Badu, “Bag Lady” is actually a metaphorical song. Bag = personal baggage/issues. Not actual bags.

012

Freelensing Day 2 slash Day 012 for my Project: 365 Days 2011 Edition.
What to photograph? What. To. Photograph.

I decided I would take my camera with me on my lunch break. KB and me ate with our new lunch pal, Kaye. Once everyone finished eating, I pulled Bootsie out and started snapping away with the lens detached.

“Just be natural. Do whatever you wanna do.”
012And so, Kaye did.
Texting. Talking. Taking a break.
Look at how blurred out her fingers are. Crazzzy!

Fin.

011

Yay! It’s the first mini-project (of several, i hope) for 2011! Yippee!!

I was perusing the photos on Bryan Bui Photography when I came across an interesting photo he did. He used a technique called “freelensing”. This is where you detach your lens from the body of your camera! Its recommended that you use a prime lens. Be careful when doing this because you can easily get dirt or dust inside the sensor of the camera.

Here’s my go at the technique! But first, the original subject.
1/1 SubjectYes, i did edit this.
Things look pretty crisp. The lens was completely attached.

Here’s freelensing Day 1!
011 Heeey! Cool!
Focus and blur in multiple spots. You can’t achieve this with the lens attached! Well, at least I don’t think so, but what do i REALLY know?
Anyways… I think it’s artistic, awesome and totally fun!
